Repair is usually the right answer. These are the situations where it isn't.
The 50% rule
If the repair quote approaches half the cost of a new door — and the door is past fifteen years old — replacement is the better investment.
Structural damage
Multiple cracked panels, a bent top section, or a bowed door that no longer seals are replacement territory. Single panel damage often is not.
Repair frequency
Three service calls in two years means components are aging together. Replacing the system ends the cycle.
Efficiency and safety
Doors made before the mid-1990s may lack modern reversing safety hardware and have essentially no insulation.
